What is HEXAEMERON?
Such a name deserves an explanation!
Historically, the Greek term Hexaemeron refers to a series nine homilies composed by St. Basil the Great as meditations on the six days of creation, as described in the opening chapters of Genius. The sermons were probably written after his elevation to the episcopate in Caesarea in 378-379 AD. They were preached at morning and evening services during Great Lent. The popularity of this fourth century work made it the standard for all subsequent commentaries on the Genesis account.
In the context used here, HEXAEMERON is a 501c (3) non-profit organization, offering a collaborative basis for the support of labors in the sacred arts, education and charity. In keeping with its underlying principles and philosophy, HEXAEMERON sponsors an array of venues to individuals and organizations to achieve full measure of their creative endowment.
